Work Parties

Work parties at Jindabyne and Perisher generally include painting, minor carpentry and plumbing, physics essay examples cleaning and gardening. Accommodation at work parties is complimentary, and there is time for “party” as well as “work”. Register with the designated contact – work party dates may change.

Franklin Frolic

A catered weekend of games, a short bushwalk or two, some odd jobs, and the usual camaraderie. See Frozen Acres for more details.

Annual General Meeting

The 2014 AGM will be held on March 26 at the Canberra Bridge Club in Deakin. See Frozen Acres for more details.

Mt Franklin Open Day

Visit the new shelter at the heritage listed Mt Franklin precinct. Join a park ranger and Canberra Alpine Club members in discovering the history of the area. Look at some of the historic ski equipment that was used in the 1930s and 1940s. Take a stroll to the top of Mt Franklin and enjoy the fantastic view. Old and new members welcome (and friends, and everyone else…); if you’re not familiar with Franklin, come up and have a look around, and if you are, come up and chat to visitors!

Pre-season Cocktail Party

Snowsports ACT Ski Sale

Snowsports ACT Ski Sale and Expo – held from 9am until 2pm at the Old Bus Depot Markets, my paper writer Kingston. X-C, Alpine, Snowboarding. New and second-hand gear.

Back to Perisher Weekend

Run by SLOPES, the Back to Perisher weekend over Easter includes various events, such as a Fun Run, a Duck Race, a Treasure Hunt and a mountain bike tour.

Paddy Pallin Junior XC

A Cross-country event for anyone under 16 as at 31 December of the previous year, supported by CAC. The emphasis is on participation, and all racers get a certificate. Distances depend on age and weather conditions – varying from a few hundred metres to 5km. Followed by poppers, hot dogs and spot prizes, as well as fun and games. No charge – turn up at the Nordic Shelter from 10am to register.

Snowsports ACT Come and Try XC Day

Held at the Nordic Shelter – open to everyone, contact info@snowsportsact.com.au to register. The day involves a two hour lesson followed by lunch. No cost, but you need to bring your own XC gear. Note: CAC will subsidise the cost of XC ski hire for members for this event. Contact snowsports@cac.org.au for more information.

Family Week

A program designed for families with primary-school aged children. An activities deposit, in addition to accommodation charges, is required from patrons booking at Perisher.

Youths’ Week

A program designed for families with secondary-school aged children. An activities deposit, in addition to accommodation charges, is required from patrons booking at Perisher.

Club Championships

The Club Championships (Alpine and Snowboard) are run on a giant slalom course. Each competitor has two runs, and the times are combined to give a total time. All members and guests are welcome to compete (members only are eligible for awards); competitors do not need to be “gun” skiers, but the course is set above beginner level.

ACT Women in Sport Ski de Femme

If you’re a woman who is interested in cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing, this is for you. Classical and skating sessions are run by experienced skiers and instructors. Whether you’ve never tried nordic skiing before, or just want to brush up on your technique, this is a great day of fun and learning.

XC Race Week

A week of XC racing events, for beginners to seasoned racers. Note that XC Race Week has been moved to the first week in August. While XC Race Week has previously been designated as “Members’ Week”, there is no designated “Members’ Week” in 2013.

XC Night Relays

Part of XC Race week, this event is a fun sprint relay, held under lights around a loop at the Nordic Shelter. It is followed by an optional dinner at the Nordic Shelter.

KAC Classic

The KAC Classic is a freestyle citizen Cross-country Ski Race over approximately 8.5km. It is run (snow permitting) from Perisher Valley to Charlotte Pass. CAC uses this race as its Club senior cross-country championship. See the KAC website for entry details and more information.

Snowy Mountains Classic

The Snowy Mountains Classic is a series of citizen Cross-country Ski Races, ranging from 2.5km to 30km. it is run, snow and weather permitting, in the vicinity of the trails starting from the Nordic Shelter. CAC is a major sponsor of this race. CAC uses this race as its Club junior cross-country championship.

Brumby Races

The Brumby Races are the Club social races. The races are run down a dual giant slalom course. Each competitor has two runs – one on the red course and one on the blue course. The times of the two runs are combined to give an overall time for each competitor. The President’s Cup (Mens and Ladies) is decided by the best combined time, or by a dual slalom knockout competition when Perisher-Blue allows us to run one! In the Brumby Cup, male and female competitors are paired at random, and the times for each racer are combined to determine the winning pair. The random pairings mean that even average racers have a chance of winning the Brumby Cup if they are paired with a fast skier! Snowboard trophies are also awarded (the Social Sliders and Social Gliders cups), as well as veterans and novice trophies.

Kosciusko Tour

The Kosciusko Tour is run (snow and weather permitting) from Thredbo (top of the Crackenback chairlift) to Perisher Valley. It is run by the Canberra Cross-Country Ski Club, and is popular with fancy dress skiers as well as serious racers.

Balmain Cup

The Balmain Cup is the oldest interclub ski competition in Australia, having been held regularly since 1933. The Canberra Alpine Club has competed regularly since the 1930s. The Balmain Cup consists of events in snowboarding, slalom, giant slalom and cross-country. See here for more information on the Balmain Cup.

Perisher Cup

The Perisher Cup is a friendly inter-club competition, where teams of four participate in cross-country, giant slalom, and a jump. Any age and skiing ability can compete.
